In this debate, Senator Bernie Sanders and Brian Sullivan discuss all the different ways that health care will help and hurt the American body. Sullivan argues that it will hurt because one tenth of the American people work for insurance companies and once this health care proposal is passed, they will all lose their jobs. He shares an interview that he had with a woman earlier in the week about her health care experiences in Canada which would be very similar to America's if the bill was passed and she said that her mother died of cancer because she had to wait four whole months to even be seen, much less treated by a doctor for her condition. Sanders replies and says how unfortunate that is for the woman, but also explains how America spends the most money on health care throughout the entire world, yet we still have 36 billion Americans who are uninsured. Sullivan explains that insurance companies are scared because if this bill is passed in whole, so many people will lose their jobs and business will go downhill. Sanders replies that insurance companies should be scared; especially if they are denying care to patients who cannot afford it or insurance companies throwing people off of their plans because they just cannot afford it. Sanders states that insurance companies should also be worried because they will, "not be able to compete against strong medicare type public plan that treats people with dignity." This video helps to address and answer my research question because it presents the argument of whether or not universal health care will put people out of work or provide Americans with a stable, affordable form of health care.
