Tax the Wealthy??

Sullivan, Brian and Frank Pallonee. “RobinHood Reform?.” Fox News. Fox News, 7 July 2009. Web. 19 November 2009 <http://video.foxnews.com/6634659>.

In this healthy debate, conservative, Brian Sullivan and Democrat, Congressman Frank Pallonee discuss where the money for health care will even come from. Sullivan is very concerned about how taxes are going to sky rocket and many Americans will be put in debt because of how much health care is going to cost, especially if there are people paying for other people to have insurance even when they can barely afford it themselves. Congressman Pallonee explains that there will definitely have to be an increase of spending, but that it will be made through cuts and a new source of revenue must be tapped. He claims that it is very important to question existing programs cuts and potentially make more cuts. Congressman strains to tell Sullivan though, that there will be so much money saved from the bill in the long run, but there must be money spent up front to begin. Sullivan introduces the topic of taxation of the people and wants to know that if taxes have to be raised, why it cannot be done based on a cost of living index? He does not at all believe that it is fair to tax the heck out of the wealthy just because they have money. Sullivan explains the fair tax method and proposes that Americans just be taxed on what they spend not using this, "robin hood reform" to put Americans in debt and create debt for future tax payers. Sullivan also explains how there should be more responsibility placed upon the patient before they are just given free health care; using the example of obesity in America over the past five years and how it has increased significantly. Rather than addressing the problem at the core, which is healthy eating and proper exercise, doctors and American health care immediately spend millions of dollars providing lypo-suction on patients or hip therapy because their bone structure could not hold the weight of their body. Pallonee agrees that it is important that something be done about the issue and suggest preventitive care. This article helps to answer my research question because it addresses the argument between whether or not Americans will reap the benefits of health care or be paying for them for the rest of their existince. Democrats believe that though it will cost up front, that the cost efficiency and quality of care that will be put in place because of the bill will be outstanding. On the other hand, Republicans believe that the bill will just tax the heck out the Americans and force them to choose a specific medical physician to seek attention from.
